Replacement planning
HVAC system selection: equipment, sizing and installation
Choose a system around your home’s heating, cooling and installation needs.
Start with the home, not a model number
Describe your floor plan, renovations and rooms that are difficult to keep comfortable. Ask how the installer will assess heating and cooling needs. Replacing a system with the same nominal size does not establish that the original size was right for the home.
Compare the complete system
Discuss heat pump or furnace options, indoor equipment, controls and compatibility with your ductwork. For each proposal, ask what is included in electrical connections, drainage, duct changes and removal of old equipment. Prince’s Cleveland project photos show why a replacement can involve more than setting a new unit in place.
Plan for ownership
Compare the purchase price alongside maintenance requirements, equipment and labor warranties, and the assumptions behind operating-cost estimates. Ask which comfort problem each recommendation addresses. Keep a written scope so you can compare equivalent work rather than model names alone.
